Some residents of Oyibi are up in arms with the government over its decision to use their area as a landfill site.
According to the residents, they will not allow such a move following the unpleasant stories they have heard from residents of Achimota, Oblogo, Abokobi, and others whose areas have been used as a landfill site.
One of the residents at Oyibi, who spoke to Accra-based Joy FM complained about some of the health implications.
"We don't have pipe borne water, we are relying on borehole. Where they are planning to site the plant is just on top of the hill and when it rains water runs down.

"If we are sinking boreholes to drink from there and here they are siting this plant, what measures have they put in place to ensure it does not contaminate the water we are drinking?" the resident asked.
The residents believed that the government was not being fair to them.
“How can you site a factory in the midst of a residential area? You are coming to set up a waste management factory which comes with its attendant consequences.”

Oyibi will serve as the site for one of three new landfill and waste management facilities, but residents said that the government should have sat down with them as part of public policy formulation to discuss it.
They have, therefore, called on President Nana Akufo-Addo to intervene and stop the contractors from putting up the landfill site.
